Strategy, innovation and passion: Redscreen gives its all

Innovation, creativity, depth of understanding and passion are embedded in South African ISV RedScreen's culture and unique model of engagement.

Located in Johannesburg, RedScreen is an established services-based company that serves both South Africa and the Southern African region.

RedScreen, which is part of the RedScreen World Holdings group of companies founded in 1995 by Dr Pierre Mulder, has grown organically in size, is self-financed and has yielded steady growth in turnover and profitability.

Says Dr Mulder: "Through strategic partnering and intense development of technical and systems capabilities our products and services have rapidly expanded."

"Our specialist service areas include consulting, an Innovation Lab for fixing business challenges, a Design Centre for building complete Systems and a Solution Centre for developing Customised Applications."

RedScreen uses intelligence, integration and data communications to address business challenges including the Single Customer View, Digital Human Intelligence, Performance Management and Relationship Management for customers across a variety of vertical markets.

"Our vertical market expertise is mainly vested in banking, government, healthcare and telecommunications. Over time each specialist service area will develop the unusual blend of deep vertical knowledge combined with a strong integration capability across the technologies within our organisation," says Dr Mulder.

RedScreen's appointment as an Oracle Certified Partner brings new opportunities, especially in the banking industry. "The Oracle technology platform is robust, stable and can handle large volumes of data that is typical of the types of industries in which we operate," says Dr Mulder.

RedScreen has partnered with Oracle to deliver the "Single View of the Customer" approach within one of the largest retail and corporate banks in SA. The project involves processing millions of customer records derived from both the Customer Information File and other data repositories.

"The project delivers a sizeable profit enhancement. The initial project identified the exact number of businesses and individuals who use the bank. By knowing this information the bank is able to accurately model its liquidity and report accurately to the South African Reserve Bank on its current status," says Dr Mulder.

The combined solution enhances decision-making capabilities by discovering patterns within the data that conventional technologies and modeling techniques find difficult to master.

It also addresses the key issue of focused value propositioning and provides better decision making capabilities within credit; risk, compliance, or wherever there is a need to construct a complete view of customer information which is widely spread across the enterprise.

Dr Mulder says the project utilises RedScreen research and development capabilities into non-linear pattern recognition, probability-based set calculation, non-sequential computing and neural-net construction.

RedScreen has recently been appointed to be the local value added reseller of PlasmaMIND, a Digital Human Intelligence technology.

"PlasmaMind technology is marked as a bespoke "smart solution" in a number of horizontal and vertical markets." He continues: "It can be deployed alongside conventional technologies to deliver "smart" enterprise business processing, i.e. supporting Six Sigma initiatives, "smart" enterprise document management and "smart" enterprise workflow."

One of the strengths of RedScreen is the understanding of particular challenges within specific industries and customers. To enable quick deployment in these industries the PlasmaMIND technology will be specifically customised in a number of vertical markets as turnkey solutions.

Dr Mulder explains that the main elements that drive business at RedScreen include:

  • Determining the total cost of servicing the customer from an enterprise perspective.
  • Determining the profitability scoring to segment the customer base from an enterprise perspective.
  • Creating propensity to pay models within delinquent and charged off accounts, Basel II compliance and support for compliance initiatives. The solution also addresses the key issue of focused value propositioning and provides better decision-making capability within credit/ risk.

He concludes by saying that RedScreen believes that humans excel at handling complex tasks in a simple seamless manner because of the basic building blocks and human capabilities that they are equipped with.

"By introducing and blending human capabilities into the approach, design and resolution of commercial business problems, businesses can be enabled with automated human capabilities that bring an enormous competitive advantage and digital flexibility that conventional approaches and their accompanying technologies find too hard to master."
